When I turned 30, I decided to take a career break and see the world. In fact, I ended up visiting 28 countries in four years, including Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Spain, Peru, Rio de Janeiro and Egypt. It was an amazing experience! The only camera I owned was a small hand-held, but I took literally thousands of pictures.
It was only when I got home that I realised what a big part taking photos had played in my adventures and what a passion I’d developed for photography, so I set out to buy myself my first ‘proper’ camera.
During my time of learning to be a photographer and traveling I also married my travel buddy Jo and in 2012 and 2013 I was lucky enough to become a dad to two boys. Then instead of taking pictures of wonderful places I took pictures (and more pictures, and more pictures) of my two wonderful boys.
It was round about then that my Jo encouraged me to follow my passion and Everybody Smile Photography was created.
As a side note I also arranged my own wedding as a surprise ( not a don't tell the bride secret ) just a dare you challenge which actually materialised into the real thing :)
I’ve been lucky enough to do some amazing things.
I’ve sky dived from 14,000 ft, bungee jumped off a mountain face, rafted the Tully rivers, climbed a volcano, danced the tango in Argentina, watched the sun rise over Machu Picchu and dived in the Great Barrier Reef.
I’ve watched the sun set over Ayers Rock, learnt to surf (or rather, tried), kicked a football on Rio beach, seen the water thunder down the Iguazu Falls, met Buddhist monks, run with the bulls in Pamplona, drunk beer at Octoberfest and heli-hiked the Franz Joseph glaziers.
I’ve swum with dolphins in the wild, watched England beat Australia at cricket (in Oz), ridden a camel in Egypt and elephants in Thailand, seen Liverpool win a cup final, cheered Barcelona vs Madrid and been chased out of a Berber village in North Africa.
I’ve become a dad to two boys, decorated a nursery and created my own cocktail.
Amazing things I want to do
