Laura and Jack - A Truly Personal Gorcott Hall Wedding - Gorcott Hall Wedding Photography
When it comes to any new wedding photography enquiry that I receive, one of the nicest things that can happen is when the enquiry comes from someone who is passionate about engaging your services as a photographer. From my initial meeting with Laura it was clear that she had a very clear vision of how she wanted her special day to go at the stunning Gorcott Hall, and I was over the moon that she had chosen me to be a part of that.
Laura’s vision for her wedding day was so clear that she had decided to create all of the décor herself to ensure it fitted her vision - to brilliant effect. She even did her own hair and makeup and was as actively involved in her entire wedding process as it is possible to be - this day was incredibly personal to Laura and Jack, and it was my pleasure to make sure my wedding photography captured that.
The wedding morning
Laura had opted for a wedding morning that was a little more low key than some weddings I’ve worked on before. Laura spent some one-on-one time with just her mum, and the overall atmosphere was lovely and relaxed. The weather was more than could have been hoped for, too, particularly for this time of year, and the happy couple were presented with a gloriously sunny day. This meant that the wedding ceremony was able to go ahead outside - and you know how much I love an outside wedding!
As the guests began to arrive for the ceremony, they headed to the front of the venue. The great weather gave everyone a chance to take advantage of being outside and grab a drink in the gardens. This was my first time taking wedding photography at Gorcott Hall, and it was a stunning venue that did not disappoint.
Having already done my research into the best spots for photos, I was more than pleased to find that on the day, the lighting was perfect. Plus, the venue was set up perfectly, which gave me the chance to get some great, natural photos. There were also plenty of fantastic areas around the venue which were perfect for guests to enjoy.
On a side note, the staff at Gorcott Hall were incredible, warm and friendly but totally on point when it came to delivering a very relaxed vibe for Laura and Jack’s wedding day.
The perfect autumnal wedding ceremony
The wedding itself took place in the courtyard and Laura had decorated the ceremony area with pumpkins, lanterns and bright orange blooms - the perfect match for the autumnal time of year - and giving me a great backdrop from which to photograph their vows. The area where the ceremony took place was particularly beautiful, and after what was a very emotional ceremony we headed over to the gardens where the outdoor drinks reception took place. The weather remained so good, and everyone had the opportunity to enjoy what might have been the last sunny day of the year - including me and my camera!
A special wedding photoshoot of the happy couple
Just before the wedding party headed into the wedding breakfast, I took some time away from the guests with the bride and groom. Laura had requested a slightly longer couples shoot. She was very keen for me to capture some stunning images of her and her new husband, which they could look back on with pride. Plus, this was the perfect opportunity to showcase her show-stopping wedding dress.
Of course, at this time of the year the sun can set very quickly, but we still managed to get some spectacular sunset photos. The darker night time also ensured that we had plenty of contrasting images from the shoot. The rolling hills of the venue were the perfect backdrop for some amazing photos of the happy couple (and of course the great colours of autumn played an important part too!).
The wedding breakfast
Laura’s son not only walked her down the aisle but also opted to make a speech during the wedding breakfast. As you can imagine, with both the mother of the bride and the bride's son making speeches there was quite a bit of emotion in the room - which was beautiful to experience. I love a wedding where no-one holds back, and there was barely a dry eye in the house when the speeches had finished.
All too quickly, the wedding breakfast was over (and very much enjoyed!). The reception area was full of joy and laughter and the old beams and low lighting around the edges of the dancefloor gave the end of the day a cosy feel; perfect for the happy couple’s first dance.
This led into some less traditional moments, especially once the dance floor filled up and was rocking with happy guests. With some final evening photos outside the venue (with champagne bottle making the perfect prop!), it was the perfect end to what had been an amazing day.
I’d like to thank Laura and Jack for allowing me to be a very small part of their big day, and hope the wedding photographs I’ve captured give them something to smile about for a long time to come.
