Woodland Tipi wedding at Newlands Bishop Farm, Solihull - Newlands Bishops FArm Wedding Photography

Next Stop Newlands Bishop Farm

Hannah and Lewis were married at Newlands Bishop Farm in Solihull. Newlands Bishop offers tipi weddings in their beautiful rural setting, with the option to get married in the woodland. It’s perfect for outdoorsy couples or those that want the sociable and informal feeling that a tipi wedding can bring, and that’s exactly what Hannah and Lewis were after – nice and chilled out, no rigid structure, a chance for everybody to relax and celebrate without formality.

They’d first approached me to be their wedding photographer after I’d taken pictures at Hannah’s sister’s wedding a few years back, and they’d been really happy with the shots. They also wanted somebody they knew they’d have good rapport with and who they’d feel comfortable being around for some of the really special moments in their big day – so I’m touched that they came to me.

Hannah and Lewis opted for the woodland ceremony which Newlands offer, followed by a return to the tipis for food and fun. The wood is a beautiful, romantic setting, and the magical feeling was enhanced by a guitarist who gently strummed while the guests were arriving for the wedding ceremony.

The walk into the clearing where the wedding was held was a short distance down a winding, meandering path. It was a great way to approach the space as it revealed itself through the trees, but it was tough on the waiting groom, as every twig snapped underfoot had Lewis turning expectantly to see his bride! There were at least three false alarms before Hannah and her bridesmaids finally made their grand entrance.

Following a moving ceremony, it was time for some confetti fun. Hannah and Lewis had over 100 guests at their wedding, which made for one very long confetti arch, which was loads of fun for the guests and meant that the bride and groom got a more than a proper sprinkle.

With the formalities over, Hannah, Lewis and their guests got to relax and enjoy some drinks. It was lovely to see Hannah’s sister – it’s always lovely to see the couples I’ve photographed again, especially when there are some little ones in tow.

Newlands had spectacularly served the drinks in the shovel of an enormous tractor, which made for the perfect ice bucket, and the guests got stuck into some refreshing beers.

Hannah and Lewis both work as models, and so were keen to have some ‘wow’ photos alongside the documentary-style images which are my signature. I’d planned to capture these during the sunset, but unfortunately, although the day was warm, it was also overcast, and rain had threatened all day. It just wasn’t the day for a golden sunset in the end, but Newlands has plenty of picturesque spaces and so I was able to take some images of the bride and groom in the woodland where the ceremony had been held, and all around the farm.

It was an incredibly windy day, and Hannah’s veil looked incredibly dramatic as the windy whipped it up – it was especially lovely as it was the same veil her sister had worn, and that I’d photographed, on her own breezy wedding day a few years before.

Just as Hannah and Lewis wanted, the rest of the day was a relaxed affair with their guests mingling, getting to know one another, and sharing happy memories of the couple. As rain threatened, the guests took a seat in the tipis, and some informal speeches became a little more formal as everyone gathered around the top table, keen to hear what Lewis, his best man, and his new father in law had to say.

There was delicious street food to be enjoyed, shapes to be thrown on the dancefloor, and sparklers to be lit outside, drawing a wonderful day to its close.
