Solihull Family Photography - The Evans Family.
With the lockdown rules beginning to ease a little I was fortunate enough to get out and about again to do some family photography.
On my way to the family home in Solihull, I became more and more excited about the opportunity of using my camera again to capture some family memories. I was equally excited about meeting this family as their completed questionnaire gave me a sense of a fun and active family.
It was time to meet the family – Jane (Mum), Rob (Dad), Imogen and Elizabeth. Family shoots at home give the opportunity for me to really get a sense of what’s at the heart of the family, allowing each personality in the family to shine through in a natural and easy manner.
As I ventured into the garden I was greeted with the smell of BBQ and I already knew that’s where I would find Rob for the rest of the afternoon, dedicated in his quest to feed his family with copious amounts of food.
As with any family shoot, I spent the first part getting to know the children to ensure they felt comfortable and relaxed with me. Imogen and Elizabeth’s latest obsession was Tik Tok so without any need for encouragement they showed me their latest routines. They aced the moves and so it was time to get Mum involved too.
After much hysteria, the girls moved on from basic moves to gymnastics. Imogen’s back flips were incredible as I looked on with envy. Why didn’t my body move like that?!
Seeking more bounce to their movement the girls moved onto their trampoline – clearly another activity they had been doing lots over recent weeks and their aerobatic moves were equally impressive.
It was time to bring the parents in – after all it wasn’t all about Imogen and Elizabeth! Jane proudly showed me her vegetable patch which was a new project she’d embraced since lockdown. The various plants seemed to look healthy which was clearly down to the scarecrow on constant guard. The scarecrow had been lovingly handmade by the family.
The family had decided to take up a new hobby in lockdown which they could enjoy together. Out came the bow and arrows – was I really going to witness my first archery family photo shoot?! Identifying that the bullseye had not been hit yet and that plenty of arrows had landed outside of the outer circle, I decided that I wouldn’t stand behind the target to get a photograph. I stayed well clear of those shooting arrows!
With all that physical activity it was clear that Imogen and Elizabeth had worked up an appetite. Moving closer to the food to wait for the last few sausages to be cooked to perfection by Dad, they showed me their pets. Anyone who follows my family blogs knows that I dread animal photography… the animals are just too quick for my liking… and it seems hamsters are no exception!
As I left the family to tuck into their BBQ I reflected on how happy and united this family appeared to be. While I know lockdown has been challenging for us all, there are definitely some epic memories that families are creating. Let’s hope I can capture some more of these memories for families to cherish for years to come.
