Skylark Fields Farm Wedding Photography - Some of my favourite Wedding Images from Nicola & Alex's Skylark Fields Farm Wedding.
Crazy golf, a zip wire – and how to get the perfect sunset shot!
Now – this is a family I know pretty well. I was the photographer at Nicola’s sister’s wedding a few years ago and I’m flying to Mexico in 2020 to photograph her brother’s wedding too.
Nicola and Alex got married at Skylark Farm in Daventry, a beautiful venue that’s licensed for both indoor and outdoor weddings. The countryside views across Northamptonshire and Warwickshire are absolutely stunning and the grounds are fab – they have an outdoor covered dining area and guests can stay over in their gorgeous glamping tents.
Getting ready for the church
The bridal prep was relaxed and funny as the bride, her bridesmaids and flower girls got ready. Once again, I shook the champagne bottle up before photographing Nicola opening it – I love seeing the surprise on their faces when it explodes!
Then the men headed off to the church in a big red vintage East Kent bus (with a quick detour to the village pub for a bit of Dutch courage before the service).
The lighting in the church was lovely, particularly as the happy couple signed the register, and the pretty churchyard was an excellent backdrop for some of the post-wedding photos.
Making the most of the fine weather at Skylark Farm
The venue team had set up crazy golf and a zip wire on the lawn overlooking the rolling hills and beautiful countryside, and the bar was fully up and running in the conservatory when we arrived. So, as champagne was supped before the wedding breakfast, the guests had a chance to take part in some outdoor pursuits.
I have to say purely from a photographer’s point of view, the zip wire was an inspired choice. I got some fantastic shots of guests flying through the air, howling with laughter.
We took full advantage of the stunning scenery with plenty of group shots and photos of the newly weds. Totally relaxed with lots of giggles was definitely the order of the day, and the bride and her maids had a lot of fun pulling silly poses and pouting for the camera.
The wedding breakfast was loud and lively and they completely went to town with the wedding cakes. It was a Mr and Mrs Caterpillar with about 50 baby caterpillars. And then it was back outside to carry on making the most of the warm summer’s day.
The lengths a bride will go to….
As the sun started setting, we found the perfect spot for ‘the sunset shot. Unfortunately, it was over a barbed wire fence, across a stream and up a steep hill through the woods…
Nicola wasn’t going to be deterred – she simply hitched her dress up and got on with it! It was so worth it though – these photos are among my personal favourites, as are the ones of them standing on the little quay over the lake with the woods behind them. It’s SO atmospheric!
The couple brought the music outside for the first part of the evening and everyone had sparklers as they came out for their first dance, on the lawn with the countryside views behind them. It was stunning.

Skylark Fields Farm Wedding Photography
Skylark Fields Farm Wedding venue is best described as blank canvas with spectacular scenery
The venue is brilliant as it gives you the freedom to create exactly what you want for your wedding day.
Skylark Fields Farm is a family owned wedding venue but also a working farm surrounded by 300 acres of beautiful Northamptonshire countryside.
You can get married at the venue or if you want there’s a church on the neighbouring village, so you could have a religious service and then come back to the farm for the wedding party afterwards or have a registrar perform the service on site.
In terms of photography, the views and backdrops are stunning and I’ve been lucky enough to make the most of some spectacular sunsets
