Kat and Scott – A Cotswolds wedding photography at The Slaughters Manor House
I come to you today with another gorgeous Cotswolds wedding! As autumn draws in it’s easy to forget the dizzy heights of summer, but going through the pictures from Kat and Scott’s day reminded me that we did have some pretty spectacular summer weather back in July – and this couple were lucky enough to get the best of it.
I’d initially met Kat and Scott at a Compton Verney wedding fair in 2019, and they were really keen for me to photograph their wedding, but I already had a booking on the day of their wedding so I wasn’t able to. Both Kat and Scott had told me, separately, that the other had a very specific taste and that it wasn’t always easy to meet their exacting standards so I was delighted that they’d wanted me to take their pictures, even though the dates didn’t work. Of course, due to covid lockdowns, Kat and Scott ended up needing to change the date of their wedding and the silver lining (for me, at least!) was that I was available on the rescheduled day.
Kat and Scott had chosen to hold their celebrations at The Slaughters Manor House in Lower Slaughter. Despite the gruesome name, The Slaughters Manor House is a gorgeous, incredibly picturesque Cotswolds retreat, with hotel rooms for guests, and is an absolutely beautiful place to spend the day.
I spoke to Kat and Scott over zoom several times before the wedding day, as they had thought about a lot of details of the day already, and I wanted to make sure that I captured everything that was important to them. They were, like most couples, keen to make their day unique and personal to them, and for Kat and Scott, foodies and drink connoisseurs, that meant that food and drink was really important. One of the reasons they chose The Slaughters Manor House as a wedding venue was the delicious, high-quality food.
Kat and Scott had planned on having wine tasting as part of the wedding day, but eventually, with all the myriad other changes that had to occur due to pandemic restrictions, it wasn’t possible. However, The Slaughters Manor House allowed them to provide their own drinks, so Kat and Scott handpicked a really delicious champagne, amongst other things, for their guests, and we all got to share in their impeccable taste. Thanks guys!
Kat spent the morning of the wedding with her mum, and it was lovely to see their close connection as Kat prepared for the day ahead. Throughout the day, in fact, it was clear that Kat’s mum was really proud of her, as she barely took her eyes off her daughter as she was getting ready, primping her dress, and walking down the aisle. It was really special to see their bond and made for some lovely, personal shots that I hope they’ll treasure for a long time.
After I’d finished at Kat’s I headed off to Chipping Campden to get some pictures of Scott and his groomsmen taking in a pre-wedding drink at one of the local pubs. It was a gorgeous sunny July day, and the ceremony itself took place in the lovely St Catharine’s RC church in Chipping Campden. Kat has a Scottish background, and her brother was playing the bagpipes as the guests arrived, much to the delight of younger guests who were very excited by the display and stopped for selfies and pictures as they made their way into the church.
It was a really touching ceremony, with both tears and laughter, and when we emerged back out into the daylight, everyone headed through the sunny Cotswolds scenery to The Slaughters Manor House. Kat and Scott had a band playing as their guests enjoyed some celebratory fizz and canapes, and there was a lovely warm feeling in the air. Soon it was time for a four-course fine dining experience, and then the party started.
One of the questions that had come up when we chatted was ‘do we really need you there the whole day?’ Kat was getting ready by herself in the morning, so there was no group of bridesmaids to photograph, and the couple didn’t think their guests would be raving into the wee hours, so they were curious for a while about just booking me for a small portion of the day. In the end, they went for a 12-hour booking, as they decided that it was important to capture the nerves and excitement that Kat would be feeling that morning, and they were pleased they did, as their guests surprised them by tearing up the dancefloor until late!
Kat and Scott had laid on a bouncy castle for their younger guests, and The Slaughters Manor House is equipped with tennis courts for those who fancy themselves the next Raducanu – although I’ve never seen someone serve an ace while holding an infant at Wimbledon. The wedding guests made full use of every opportunity for fun and games, and the evening concluded with more live music to keep everyone moving.
It was a spectacular day in a beautiful, sun-drenched Cotswolds setting – what more could a bride and groom ask for?
