Lauran and Connor's Wedding day –Solihull wedding photography at Hampton Manor

The lovely Lauren and Connor got married at Olton Friary Church, Solihull, back in the summer. They couldn’t have picked a better day, because the sun shone down on us non-stop, setting the tone for this joyful, love-filled occasion.

I’d met Lauren and Connor a couple of times before their wedding as I usually do, and Lauren had told me that one of the important parts of the day would be the bridal prep at her mum’s place. So I headed off bright and early on the day of the wedding and was delighted to see some previous Solihull wedding clients already there – Lauren had booked me because of word-of-mouth recommendations, which is a lovely way for me to get local business, not least because it means I sometimes get to catch up with my brides and grooms months or sometimes years later!

Lauren’s bridesmaids were having a whale of a morning, and the house was filled with laughter, as well as the delicious scent of sausage and bacon rolls – Lauren had told me that her mum would feed everyone well, and she didn’t disappoint. Amidst the banter and the giggling, the girls created for each other special Spice Girls-style nicknames which they used all morning, including ‘Vogue’ for a particularly enthusiastic poser, whose enthusiasm I was very happy to indulge!

Before long it was time to make our way to the church. Olton Friary in Solihull is a beautiful church for a number of reasons – it’s an enormous space, with masses of natural light, making it perfect for a photographer, as it’s possible to get some beautiful shots from a number of more unusual angles. It was a gorgeous ceremony, with the sun pouring in, and I was able to take some pictures of Connor and Lauren’s guests absorbed in the proceedings.

Following their ceremony, Connor and Lauren had laid on a bus for their guests from Olton Friary to Hampton Manor, a gorgeous estate in Hampton-in-Arden with good food at its centre. Although the Midlands sky had threatened rain all morning, with on-and-off gloom, it turned out to be a gorgeous afternoon, so the wedding guests could all head out to the lovely lawns at Hampton Manor to enjoy some drinks and nibbles. Connor and Lauren had sorted out some live music for the guests to listen to while they mingled, and with the formal part of the day over, relaxation set in.

The food at Hampton Manor is to die for – they have a Michelin-starred restaurant on the grounds – so the wedding guests all enjoyed a beautiful dinner before it was time for the speeches, which were loads of fun. There was plenty of cheerful banter, as well as some touching and emotional moments between Connor and his best man.

Like many couples, Connor and Lauren had hired me because they liked my documentary style, and they hadn’t envisaged posing for photos, but after a few glasses of wine, the thought of some portrait shots became a more appealingly romantic prospect, and we had a quick walk around the grounds where I was able to get some images of the happy couple enjoying the gorgeous surroundings. I’m really adamant that I don’t need to steal my couples away from their weddings for enormous chunks of time to take portrait photos – ten or fifteen minutes will usually do – and that’s all it took to snap a few romantic moments between Connor and Lauren.

When we returned, the party was warming up, and the bride and groom headed off to the dance floor to party with their guests – a perfect day.
