Donington Park Farmhouse Wedding Photography,  Marianne and Ryan Wedding Day

Today I want to tell you all about the wedding of teacher Marianne and her now-husband Ryan. Their beautiful wedding was held at Donington Park Farmhouse in Leicestershire. Located close to Derby, Nottingham, and Leicester, Donington Park Farmhouse is set in the middle of gorgeous rolling farmland (as the name suggests!) and it’s a very pretty setting for a spring wedding day.

Marianne had just two bridesmaids, her sisters, one of whom was her identical twin. Having only met her on a zoom call, I was a little discombobulated when I arrived for the bridal prep and there were two Mariannes in front of me, but I did manage to work out who was the bride before too long – the big white dress is always a dead giveaway. I jest, of course! It was actually Marianne’s smile and laugh that were distinctive and that I recognized from our earlier call.

It was fabulous to meet her sisters, but the gang were keen to spend a bit of the morning away from the camera’s lens and for me to capture the guests arriving instead, so I had the opportunity to head out and meet the guests as they rolled up to enjoy some drinks outside before the ceremony. Ryan had arranged for him and his groomsmen to rock up in an extremely glam limousine – not sure how they fared on the bumpy country roads but they arrived relatively unscathed!

I’d not been to Donington Park Farmhouse before but I’d heard that it’s not always easy to shoot weddings there because the quaint original farm buildings don’t allow for the most spectacular lighting (almost like they weren’t thinking about wedding shoots when they built it all those years ago…), but I actually found the soft light really beautiful and I’m so pleased with the shots of Marianne and Ryan during their wedding ceremony. Marianne’s magnetic smile just couldn’t be wiped from her face!

Heading out into the warm sunshine, the wedding guests had the opportunity to enjoy Donington’s lovely courtyard, mingle, catch up, and enjoy some drinks. There’s nothing like the English countryside in the spring and it was fabulous to see everyone enjoying their fizz with the beautiful views in the distance.

Before too long it was time to return indoors for a fabulous wedding breakfast, and some speeches from the wedding party. Marianne’s sister gave a speech on behalf of their dad, and Ryan’s best man somehow managed to break his own glasses in the course of the proceedings – potentially to avoid reading his own speech, but there was no wiggling out of that one! Despite his nerves, he did a grand job and some very happy wedding guests were soon ready to party.

In my many years as a wedding photographer I’ve learned that there are certain signals that suggests a wedding might get raucous – and a cohort of teachers is definitely one of them! Marianne’s friends from teaching had definitely been enjoying the bar throughout the afternoon and wasted no time in hitting the dancefloor once the live band started to play. As I left the venue the dancefloor was full and I have no doubt that festivities continued until the wee hours…
