Music, sunshine, and love at Swallows Nest Barn - Swallows Nest Wedding Photography

Swallows Nest Barn

It feels like summer has finally arrived! And I’ve got a gorgeous summer wedding to tell you about this evening.

Sarah and Kevin got married at Swallows Nest Barn in Warwickshire. They’d booked me after a recommendation from the venue, as I’m a preferred supplier at Swallows Nest. I’m always happy when I get to shoot there, as the barn is set in such a gorgeous part of the Warwickshire countryside, right on the border with the Cotswolds, with rolling fields stretching out for miles. It’s a little suntrap of a venue, with gorgeous spaces inside and out, and really easily accessible for guests from all over, especially the West Midlands, Oxfordshire, and London.

Sarah and Kevin were clear from the start that they wanted the pictures from their wedding day to be pretty low key, with minimal posing and a natural, relaxed feel. Luckily, that’s what I do best!

Wedding Champagne with Friends

Sarah had told me that her bridal prep morning would be low key, with just her and her children preparing for the wedding day and that whilst it might be nice to get a few pictures, I didn’t need to prepare myself for a big fuss. She’d be getting ready at home, in their beautiful, architectural home. Little known to Sarah, however, her friends were plotting away behind the scenes, and midway through the morning they burst onto the scene clutching champagne and full of good cheer and excitement! So what was going to be a very quiet morning turned into a party!

Off to Swallows Nest Barn

As everyone was quaffing their champagne and catching up, I headed off to Swallows Nest Barn to capture some pictures of Kevin arriving at the venue. Being a huge car and motorbike lover, Kevin was arriving in a classic car and it really looked the part, all shiny chrome in the sunshine. Lots of Kevin and Sarah’s friends had arrived early to enjoy the beautiful day and so they all were treated to the sight of Kevin’s fabulous motor.

A little later, Sarah arrived with her children in another beautiful car, took a few moments to ready herself before heading inside, and then set off down the aisle surrounded by her family. The ceremony was beautiful, and Sarah and Kevin had the beaming smiles splashed across their faces of two people very much in love.

Music, music and more music

One of the things I loved about Sarah and Kevin’s wedding was that they had injected loads of music into the day. For me, live music is the most effective way to create an atmosphere and it never fails to bring a venue alive when musicians are there. They’d arranged for a DJ to be there while their guests enjoyed a drinks reception after the formal wedding proceedings were over, so as the still-warm sun was waning, and the bar was being put to good use, some old-school Ibiza tunes accompanied the happy vibes.

Following the wedding breakfast, guests were treated to some tunes from a talented saxophonist, but not before some cracking wedding speeches. Sarah’s dad is a really gregarious and outgoing character, and he had the whole room in hysterics during his speech with some unexpected one-liners. Kev shared the story of how he had met his beautiful bride on bumble, and how he’d had to come clean that he’d not been entirely honest about his age and his name once he realised that he wanted their relationship to have a future!

The evening was off to a brilliant start, and with the sun still beaming down on Swallows Nest Barn, Kev and Sarah’s fantastic wedding band persuaded everyone onto the dancefloor later…although it might have had something to do with the jägerbombs being dished out, too!
