I first met Megan at a wedding fair – it feels about a million years ago, now. She was at the fair with her mum and friends, and having booked me, I went and visited her and Nick a few weeks later to talk through their plans. They’d got a very new baby and the time was just right to make plans for their wedding, which was due to happen in a couple of years…

Then, the two big Ps got in the way – pandemic and pregnancy – so it wasn’t until September this year that they tied the knot! By this time, Megan and Nick had both a wee new baby and an energetic toddler to add to the fun.

Megan and Nick were married at Curradine Barns, a beautiful rural venue in Worcestershire. Set in a converted farm complex, amidst rolling countryside, it’s a gorgeous setting full of countryside charm, and the attention to detail makes it somewhere really special. Curradine Barns is ideally located for Worcestershire weddings, not far from Worcester and easy to get to, but with a feeling of being deep in the English countryside.

On the morning of the wedding, Megan and her bridal party enjoyed some bubbles while being pampered by their glam squad. It was a lovely atmosphere, with memories shared and emotions at the fore – there’s a reason why bridal prep is one of my favourite parts of the wedding day, and it’s not just about the croissants.

Nick, meanwhile, turned up at Curradine Barns about an hour before the wedding was due to begin, with the little ones in tow. Now I always enjoy watching the groomsmen attempt to sort of their buttonholes, but the more groomsmen, the more fun, and Nick had nearly a whole football team’s worth, none of whom, it seemed, were experts in the arts of tie-tying or buttonhole-placement. Leave it to Mum to step in and sort the boys out – she tied each and every tie herself! Curradine Barns professionals helped to sort out the buttonholes, and after some top-tier faffing, finally the groomsmen were ready.

Curradine Barns has a lovely outdoor courtyard, so there were plenty of drinks flowing, opportunities to catch up and share some laughs before the formal parts of the day began.

Meanwhile, Megan’s dad was awaiting the sight of his daughter excitedly. It’s always such a special moment when dads first see their daughter in her bridal gown, and this was no exception – there wasn’t a dry eye to speak of. It was lovely to see the connection between Megan and her parents, who shared a cuddle before it was time for her to walk the aisle.

Following an emotional ceremony, and some important ‘I do’s, it was time for the drinks reception out in the warm late summer air, and Megan and Nick had arranged for some live musicians, who created a celebratory atmosphere as the fizz flowed. We snuck off to take a few photos with parents and extended family, and Megan’s mum had brought her own prop – a brolly from Megan’s childhood!

After a delicious wedding breakfast inside the beautiful rustic barn, the summer’s day was still warm, and some evening light was starting to filter through the cloud. I always aim for some sunset shots, but although the day had been warm, it was a little overcast, and that multicoloured hazy sky that is every wedding photographer’s dream was nowhere to be seen. Chancing it a little, I left it later and later as darkness descended, hoping for that sunshine to really make an appearance…and with just ten minutes until darkness fell completely, there it was! We had just a few minutes of the most beautiful late summer light, and I’m so pleased with the pictures of Megan and Nick that I managed to capture.

With night-time now truly upon us, it was time for the dancing to begin, and this crowd were not shy! With some incredible moves being thrown to some dancefloor classics, it was nearly my cue to leave – but not before the bride and groom celebrated in style with some sparklers to round off a fantastic day.
