Southam Wedding Photography - Some of my favourite wedding Images from Southam.
It was on…then it was off…then the Southam Wedding was finally on again
Covid restrictions have thrown lots of wedding plans into disarray and Rebecca and Ian’s wedding was no exception. Originally scheduled for May, finally the couple were able to tie the knot in September at Warwick House, in Southam. After the stress of rearranging and the uncertainty of the covid restrictions (including for wedding photographers!!), the day turned out to be an intimate and joyful celebration to remember for all the right reasons.
Final Wedding Plans
Catching up with Ian and Rebecca a few days before their wedding, I learned that they’d been isolating together for the two weeks before to make sure that they were covid-free and could enjoy their day to the maximum.
As well as changing the date of their wedding, Ian and Rebecca had adjusted the timings of the day, and of course, were restricted to 30 guests. Understandably, they had a few concerns about how the day might pan out – what would the atmosphere be like? Would it feel strange? Would guests still be able to have fun? It was great to be able to talk through what had worked at other weddings I’ve photographed recently and share some recommendations and reassurances to put them at ease.
They needn’t have worried. One of the lovely things I’ve been finding since working some of these smaller weddings has been just how intimate and love-filled they have felt. With only 30 guests, everyone gets to be involved, and guests feel honoured to be in the room and part of the day. Every moment spent together feels special, and I got plenty of opportunity to capture on film the joy and laughter which was definitely the order of the day.
Wedding Celebrations Southam
In fact, as soon as the bubbly was cracked open for the bride and her party to get ready, all talk of viruses was forgotten as Rebecca, along with her Mum, friend Victoria, and Ian’s daughter Charlie, started preparing and getting excited for the day ahead. It’s always one of my favourite parts of the day, as people start warming up, getting relaxed around the camera, and reminiscing. Rebecca’s bridal party shared a fair bit of fizz, loads of laughs and even had a giggle about the custom masks they’d got for the ceremony.
It was a glorious September day and Warwick House Southam opened up the bar early so that guests could come in before the ceremony, say hi, catch up with old friends and get to know new ones over a swift drink in the sunshine. There was a lovely warm feeling in the air, with everyone keen to see the happy couple released from their two-week isolation! It really set the tone for the relaxed feel of the day.
Rebecca’s Dad and Step-dad walked the gorgeous bride down the aisle where she met a nervous Ian! Reassured in the presence of his wife-to-be, Ian was able to relax and enjoy the service. Guests had to wear face coverings, of course, but that didn’t put a dampener on the atmosphere in the room, and I was amazed not for the first time at how much emotion you can read in people’s eyes. Everyone’s happiness and joy at being together was really obvious.
Restrictions meant that no confetti or bubble-blowing was allowed, but Ian and Rebecca had got creative and organized bubble machines! I was able to get some really fun shots of the new husband and wife in amongst the bubbles with their loved ones – giving new meaning to the term ‘support bubble’.
As the day went on and the sun set, I whisked Rebecca and Ian away for a few moments to take some outdoor creative portrait shots. This was something Ian particularly had been keen on when we’d chatted previously, and the setting at Warwick House made the perfect backdrop. It was great to have the opportunity to flex that muscle as well as seeking those candid shots that I love to find. I was even able to get some relaxed pictures of one of Ian and Rebecca’s youngest weddings guests, their page boy. His mum had warned me that he was a little shy and wouldn’t smile for the camera, but with no pressure to pose he was able to run about and be himself, and I got some pictures that captured his real character.
One of the highlights of the day, and something I’ll remember for a really long time, was Ian and Rebecca’s first dance. It’s rare that I’m so moved by this wedding tradition – but the connection between the bridge and groom was so palpable, it was a really powerful moment. Thanks Ian and Rebecca for letting me capture it.
